John Winters Obituary

John Dennis Winters, 79, of Matawan, New Jersey, fondly known as “Dennis”, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at Raritan Bay Medical Center in Old Bridge.  Dennis was born on October 12, 1945, in Jersey City, New Jersey and grew up in Edison.  On May 10, 1969, Dennis and his wife, Kathleen, were married and began their life and family together in Old Bridge, New Jersey.  In 2000, they settled in Matawan.  Before his retirement, Dennis worked for Revlon in Edison as a Forklift Operator for many years.  He was also a proud United States Army Veteran, having served his country during the Vietnam War.

Dennis was a very active member of his community.  He was the Post Commander for the VFW Cheesequake Post #676, a third-degree knight for the Knights of Columbus St. Lawrence Chapter, and a member of the American Legion Post #20 in Keyport, as well as the Vietnam Veteran’s of America of Central New Jersey Chapter 233.  Dennis was also a board member with the Cheesequake Village Board of Trustees for over 10 years and served as their president for one year.

In his spare time, Dennis enjoyed gardening and collecting antiques.  He loved Jeopardy and hated to miss an episode, so you could find him watching it whenever possible.  He also loved classic cars.  John’s loving heart and witty personality will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.  He was a loving husband, father, brother, and friend to many.  Dennis will be deeply missed, forever loved and never forgotten.

He was predeceased by his parents, John J. and Margaret (Ryan) Winters, and his beloved wife, Kathleen A. (Clerici) Winters.  Dennis is survived by his loving daughter, Kelly A. Winters of Matawan, and his dear sister, Barbara Petroff.
