John Thomas Gerdowsky

John Thomas Gerdowsky, fondly known as “Woody,” 80, of Hazlet, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 27, 2025, surrounded by family. John was born on September 21, 1944, in Brooklyn, New York, where he grew up.  In 19 73, John married his beloved wife, Susana.   In 1975, they moved to Queens, New York to raise their family.  In 1992, they   moved to Minnesota, until returning to, New York in 1996. Ultimately in 2007, they settled in Hazlet, New Jersey.

 John worked many jobs and held many positions throughout his life, but he was most proud  of serving as a New York Emergency Medical Technician based at St. Mary’s Hospital in Brooklyn, New York. He was known to be a jack of all trades and had the “gift of gab”; he could make friends with anyone he met.  Most of all, John was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather.  He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.

He was predeceased by his parents, Francis and Helen (Hasci) Gerdowsky, his beloved wife, Susana Elisa Gerdowsky, his daughter, Lisa Gerdowsky, his son, John Gerdowsky Jr., his siblings, George Gerdowsky and Maryann  Klaus, and his granddaughter,  Ariana. John is survived by his loving children, Julie Urban and her husband, Kevin, Michael Gerdowsky, and Thomas Gerdowsky and his wife, Christina, and his dear brother, Eddie Gerdowsky and his wife, Pam.  John also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Anthony, Jacob, Samantha, and CJ, his treasured great grandchildren, Chase and Ella, and his very special niece, Barbara O’Connor, who has looked after John over the years, along with many more extended family members and friends.

Arrangements were entrusted to Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 3269 State Highway/Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey 07730.  In respect of John’s wishes, he will be privately cremated.  A memorial service/celebration of life will be held for John at a later date and time to be announced.  For information or to send condolences to the family, please visit, www.shorepointfh.com.
