John A Basso

John A. Basso, 80, of Hazlet, New Jersey, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Bayshore Medical Center in Holmdel, New Jersey.  John was born on October 31, 1943, in Jersey City, New Jersey, where he grew up.   He was a proud United States Army Veteran, having served our country during the early stages of the Vietnam War.  John was a member of Teamster Labor Union where he worked as a truck driver for over 35 years. Later, he worked at Leros Transportation Group for another 12 years before finally retiring in 2020.

On September 28, 1968, John and his beloved wife, Annette, were married and began their life together in their hometown of Jersey City.  Like so many Hudson County natives in the late 70s they decided to move to Monmouth County.  The couple settled and remained in Hazlet spending the next decades raising three children.

In his spare time, John was an outdoorsman, loved fishing, hunting and was a lifelong NRA member.  Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and cherished grandchildren.  He was a loving son, selfless husband and father, doting grandfather, and loyal friend to many.  He will be greatly missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.

He was predeceased by his parents, Dominick and Mary (Miello) Basso.  John is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 55 years, Annette (DeThomas) Basso, his loving children, Tracy Basso of Old Bridge, NJ, Michael Basso and his wife, Kyla, of White Plains, New York, and Steven Basso and his wife, Jaclyn, of Middletown, NJ, and his cherished grandchildren, Nicolas and Allana Basso.

In respect of his family’s wishes, John will be privately cremated.  Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial visitation on Saturday, April 20, 2024, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 3269 State Highway/Route 35 North, Hazlet, NJ.  A prayer service and military honors will be offered at the funeral home at approximately 5:30 PM.  For information, directions, or to send condolences to the family, please visit, www.shorepointfh.com.
