Joan I. Burgund, a loving, kind, and spirited woman, passed away on November 1, 2026, at Anchor Care & Rehabilitation Center in Hazlet, New Jersey, at the age of 84.
Born on October 27, 1942, in Mount Vernon, New York, Joan lived a life marked by devotion to her family, her faith, and the many quiet acts of care that defined her character. She grew up in Bronx, New York and spent most of her adult life living in Staten Island, New York. She moved to the Middletown and Hazlet area in 2010. She was a Christian whose gentle presence and warm heart touched all who knew her. Throughout her life, she carried herself with much strength, and she will be remembered for the love she gave so freely and the steadfast way she supported those around her.
Joan spent many dedicated years working as a nurse’s aide at Vanderbilt Nursing Home in Staten Island, New York, where her compassion and dependable nature made a lasting difference in the lives of residents and coworkers alike. Her work reflected the same kindness that she brought to every part of her life. She understood the importance of patience, dignity, and comfort, and she offered those gifts generously to others.
In her personal time, Joan enjoyed crocheting and working on crossword puzzles, pastimes that reflected both her creativity and her thoughtful mind. Yet above all else, she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, who brought her immense joy and pride. Her home and heart were always open to those she loved, and the memories she created with them will remain treasured forever.
Joan was predeceased by her beloved parents, Andrew and Catherine (Reedy) Lennane, and her dear brother, Andrew Lennane. She is survived by her loving and devoted children, James Burgund and his wife Elizabeth of Staten Island, New York, and Lorraine Martino and her husband Andrew of Middletown, New Jersey. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Joseph Burgund, Christina Sahin and her husband Berkan, Anthony Martino and his wife Corinne, Jenna Kronyak and her husband Dean. Her family was the center of her world, and her legacy lives on through the love, values, and memories she shared with them. She will be greatly missed, always loved and never forgotten.
In respect of Joan’s wishes, she will be privately cremated. Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Visitation on Thursday, November 5, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Friday morning, November 6, 2026, from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM for a Memorial Service at Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 3269 State Highway/Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey 07730.
