Jayne C. Bender, 76, of Keansburg, New Jersey, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at her sister’s home in Lincroft on Friday, January 31, 2025. Jayne was born on April 6, 1948, in Jersey City, New Jersey, where she grew up and lived into her early adulthood. In 1971, she settled in Keansburg, New Jersey, where she remained and made countless memories and friends over the years.
Jayne was a well-known figure in her Jersey City neighborhood, even after relocating to the Bayshore area, she always found a Jersey City connection everywhere she went. Most recently, Jayne was an employee at the Work Opportunity Center in Long Branch and was a proud member of the ARC of Monmouth. Jayne was also a team member of the Keansburg Kegler bowling team for over 20 years and enjoyed playing Fascination, Skilo, and Bingo at the Keansburg Boardwalk. She then advanced to the real money games, taking chances at the slot machines in the Atlantic City casinos. Live music, sausage sandwiches at the Midway in Seaside Heights, milkshakes, and Wildwood were some Jayne’s favorite things. Her laughter, witty remarks, and the inability to keep a secret were part of her charm. Jayne was truly a special gift from God. She will be greatly missed, forever loved, and never forgotten by all whose lives she’s touched over her lifetime.
She was predeceased by her parents, John and Florence (Gotleski) Bender, and her brother-in-law, Thomas J. Houlihan Jr. Jayne is survived by her loving sisters, Lorraine Houlihan, and Lynn Huntington and her husband, Gerald, and her cherished nieces and nephews, Thomas J. Houlihan III, Jacqueline Snipes, Terry Moen, Renee Huntington- Hahn, and Debora Huntington, along with many treasured great nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
