James McKiernan, 68, of Matawan, New Jersey, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Monday, March 16, 2020 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, New Jersey. James was born on May 27, 1951 in Brooklyn, New York, where he grew up. On May 12, 1973, James and his high school sweat-heart, Diane, were married and began their life together in Brooklyn, where they raised their family. Seven years ago, they settled in Matawan, New Jersey.
James was a proud Republican and equally proud of his career at the United Nations, where he was a Department Head for many years. Most of all, James loved his three children and 4 grandchildren with his whole heart. James was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome and had received a bone marrow transplant from a donor located in Germany. He fought very hard and was extremely grateful for the donation he received. In light of paying his donation forward, with his passing James is donating the gift of life to another person in need through the Sharing Network.
He was predeceased by his father, James McKiernan Sr. James is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 47 years, Diane (Esposito) McKiernan, his adoring mother, Margaret (Lee) McKiernan, his loving children, James McKiernan, Jean-Anne Sandano and Danamarie Byrne, and his cherished grandchildren, Samantha, Nicholas, Nico and Jayda-Marie. James will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
In respect of James' wishes, he will be privately cremated. Arrangements were entrusted to Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 3269 State Highway/Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey 07730. At a later date, the McKiernan family plans on hosting a celebration of life/memorial service for James.
