James Marks Obituary

James Patrick Michael Marks, 67, of Keansburg, New Jersey passed away peacefully on September 6, 2026, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born on June 24, 1959, in Red Bank, New Jersey, at Riverview Hospital, James was the son of the late Harold Edward and Lillian Grace (DeMaio) Marks. He was raised in Keansburg, and remained there throughout his life, building a family of his own as well as deep roots in the community he called home. A graduate of Keansburg High School, James carried the values of hard work, loyalty, and devotion with him throughout his life.

After high school, James began his working life with Westwood Pharmaceutical Company before entering the construction business, where he found a career that suited his strong work ethic. At the time of his passing, he was employed as a foreman with Local Union #731, Excavation and Demolition in New York, New York. James also answered a call to service in a way that reflected his courage and commitment to others, serving as a first responder during the September 11th attacks at the World Trade Center. In addition, he was a longtime member of New Point Comfort Fire Company in Keansburg, where he shared in the camaraderie and service of his community that meant so much to him.

James was a true Jersey Shore family man and cherished the simple joys that came with it. He loved spending time at the beach, fishing, and crabbing on the water, and he found happiness in the familiar rhythms of life near the shore. He especially enjoyed traveling with his family whenever he could, with trips to Cape May and Disney holding a special place in his heart. A devoted sports fan, James was an avid supporter of the New York Jets and the New York Mets, following both teams with enthusiasm and loyalty. You could always find him sitting on the porch soaking in the sun drinking cup of coffee.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Ellen (Hughes) Marks; his loving daughters, Susan Marks and her fiancé Dylan Gentile, and Mary Marks and her fiancé Jason Bush; his cherished sisters-in-law, Arlene Peters and Vas Andy; and his treasured cat, Chubby. He was predeceased by his adoring parents, Harold Edward and Lillian Grace (DeMaio) Marks.  James was a devoted husband, father, family man, friend, and neighbor.  He will greatly missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.

The Marks family would like to thank Ascend Hospice care and all medical professionals. The Marks family kindly asks in lieu of flowers, donations to 911 related funds to help families and victims would be greatly appreciated.
