James J. Henning was born on July 9, 1938, to Mary and Walter Henning in Bronx, NY.
Jim was known to his loved ones as an eccentric artist and great conversationalist, with seemingly infinite knowledge and a dry sense of humor.
After high school and about one month at Queens College, Jim joined the Marine Corp. When his service was concluded, he graduated from Saint Francis College. He had a variety of jobs and spent some time living in Hawaii, but he lived the majority of his life in Lower Manhattan, where he regularly visited with friends after settling in Keyport, NJ, near family. Wherever Jim lived, you could spot him walking long distances— sometimes to the train station, the local library, Monmouth Racetrack (he was especially fond of horse racing)—or even with no destination in mind, armed with a camera, notebook, or scrap materials to paint with.
Jim had 5 brothers whom he loved very much. He is predeceased by brothers John and Paul, and his beloved niece Claire. He is survived by brothers Michael (Cathy), Dan (Carolyn), and Peter (Jennifer). He is sorely missed by his brothers, many nieces and nephews, and countless friends.
Arrangements were entrusted to Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 3269 State Highway/Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey 07730. In respect of his family's wishes, Jim was privately cremated. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
