James Grace Obituary

James “Jim” E. Grace, 79, of Hazlet, New Jersey, passed away peacefully, with his loving family by his side on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at Bayshore Medical Center in Holmdel, New Jersey.

Born on March 22, 1947, in Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of the late Edward James and Veronica (Kash) Grace. Jim was raised in Laurelton, Queens, where he spent his early years surrounded by family and the values that would guide him throughout his life.

While living in Queens, Jim met the love of his life, Yvonne, and the two began a lifelong journey together. They dated and were married on April 19, 1968, beginning a devoted partnership that lasted 58 years. Jim served his country honorably in the United States Navy, and shortly after their marriage, he and Yvonne moved to California, where Yvonne  lived while Jim was deployed during the Vietnam War. In the early 1970s, they returned to the Bergen County area and later made their home in Hazlet, New Jersey, in 1986, where they remained to raise their family and build a life filled with love, hard work, and lasting memories.

Jim retired after many dedicated years from NYCTA/MaBSTOA , MTA in New York City, where he worked as a respected line supervisor. He was known for his strong work ethic, his reliability, and the pride he took in doing his job well. Those who knew him appreciated his steady presence and the way he approached life with a practical, capable, and caring spirit. He was a man who could fix just about anything, and his handy nature was matched by his kindness and generosity.

Outside of work, Jim enjoyed the simple pleasures that brought him happiness. He loved NASCAR, stock cars, and working on cars, and he was an avid Mets fan. Whether he was following a race, watching a game, or spending time in the yard, he found joy in the things he loved. Above all else, Jim treasured time with his family. His greatest happiness came from being surrounded by those he loved, and he especially cherished the moments shared with his children and grandchildren.

Jim will be remembered as a loving, kind, and handy man whose life was centered on family, service, and devotion. He is predeceased by his brother, Edward Grace. He is  survived by his loving wife, Yvonne (Ponce)  Grace; his caring children, James D. Grace and his wife, Gina, of Manahawkin, New Jersey, Stacie Harvey and her husband, Brian, of East Brunswick, New Jersey, and Jill Grace of Hazlet, New Jersey; and his adoring grandchildren, Kevin, Douglas, Mia, Samantha, and Tyler. He is also survived by his sisters, Kathleen Anderson, Janet Curran, Donna Grace, and Nancy Nittler.  Jim will be greatly missed, always loved and never forgotten.
