Obituary

James “Jim” A. Cozzati, 80, of Union Beach, New Jersey, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at his home.  Jim was born on March 29, 1941 in Brooklyn, New York.  He married his loving wife Florence on November 21, 1964 and they settled in Union Beach. Jim was an extremely active member of the community, especially with youth sports. He was known by many as “Coach” and truly helped sculpt the youth through sports. Jim himself even continued his love for sports by being one of the original members of the team that started the Holy Family Men’s Softball League. He was an avid fan of the New York Giants and the New York Mets. He was also a member of the Holy Name Society, part of the local Knights of Columbus, and an extremely active member at Holy Family School from regularly working bingos to an early member of the PTA Board. He was also a former member of the borough of Union Beach Health Department. Something Jim truly enjoyed was his grandchildren, and sharing his love for sports with them, both on the field, and off. Jim served honorably in the US Navy as a plank holding member on the U.S.S. Enterprise during the time of the Cuban Missile Crisis. After exiting the Navy, Jim worked as a sales manager at Surrey Electric in Union New Jersey for many years. Later in life, Jim started his own livery company called J.C. Car and Limo Service in Union Beach. He also thoroughly enjoyed old movies and was a master of crossword puzzles. He was a man of many hats, and known by many.

Jim was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Cecelia Cozzati. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Florence Cozzati, his caring children, Florence Byrne and her husband Owen of Hazlet, Anne Ault and her husband Darren of Middletown, Jeannine Holloway and her husband John of Middletown, Dorene Michael and her husband Marc of Bethesda, Maryland, Natalie Cozzati of Red Bank, Bernadette Cozzati of Union Beach, and Danielle Doucette and her husband David of Hazlet, his 17 grandchildren; Victoria, JohnPatrick, Nicholas, Caitlin, Ryan, Meghan, Madison, Olivia, Dylan, Riley, Sydney, Gabriella, Luke, William, Thaddeus, Celine, and Alexander, his siblings Johanna D’Albenzio, Patricia Laslo, and Richard Cozzati and his wife Joanne, and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Jim will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
