Helen Silvaney, 91, of Matawan, New Jersey, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, August 6, 2023 at Complete Care in Holmdel. She was born Helen Salko on January 7, 1932 in Pennsylvania and grew up in Elizabeth, New Jersey. On September 10, 1955, Helen and her husband, Edward, were married and began their life in Iselin, where they raised their family. In 2001, Helen settled in Matawan. While living in Iselin, Helen worked as a crossing guard for Woodbridge Township for many years and was also a devout parishioner of St. Cecelia's Church. Once she relocated to Matawan, she became a communicant of Most Holy Redeemer Church. Above all else, Helen was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend to many. She adored her grandchildren more than anything; they were her most precious gems and the light of her life.
She was predeceased by her parents, John and Ann (Banca) Salko, her beloved husband, Edward Silvaney, her adoring son, Paul Edward Silvaney, and her dear sisters, Annie Kovach, Margaret Gomola, and Elizabeth Sokolowski. Helen is survived by her loving daughter, Christine Donohue and her husband, Patrick, of Aberdeen, her cherished grandchildren, Shannon and Eddie Donohue, and many treasured nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 3269 State Highway/Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey 07730. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday morning, August 10, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Most Holy Redeemer Church, 133 Amboy Road, Matawan, New Jersey 07747. Interment will follow at St. Nicholas Cemetery, 679 Florida Grove Road, Perth Amboy, New Jersey 08861.
