Helen A McDermott

Helen A. McDermott, 80, of Hazlet, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on July 21, 2021, at her brother and sister-in-law’s home in Ocean Township, where she had resided for the last several years.  Helen was born on October 13, 1940, in Manhattan, New York and was raised in the Inwood section of Manhattan.  She graduated from Mother Cabrini High School and in her early adulthood, Helen attended Marymount College, where she received her bachelor’s degree.  Before her retirement, Helen was a teacher in New York City and worked in finance.  Later in life, she moved to Hazlet and while living in the area, was a devout communicant of St. Benedict Roman Catholic Church in Holmdel.  Helen was a loving daughter, sister, aunt, and friend to many.  She will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

She was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Eileen (McMahon) McDermott, her sister, Joan C. Rooney, her beloved Aunt Theresa D. McDermott, and her brother-in-law, Richard Corcoran.  Helen is survived by her loving siblings, Eileen Corcoran of Vero Beach, Florida and Fair Haven, Charles McDermott and his wife, Sharon, of Summerfield, Florida, John McDermott and his wife, Claire, of Hastings on Hudson, New York, and Kevin McDermott and his wife, Susan, of Ocean.  She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Gerard Rooney and his wife, Kathleen, of Jupiter, Florida and Avon-by-the-Sea, along with nineteen cherished nieces and nephews, and forty-four grand nieces and nephews, extended family members and friends.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Thursday, July 22, 2021, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM and Friday morning, July 23, 2021, from 10:45 to 11:30 AM at Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 3269 State Highway/Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey 07730.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, July 23, 2021, at 12:00 PM at St. Benedict Roman Catholic Church, 165 Bethany Road, Holmdel, New Jersey 07730.  Interment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 100 Chapel Hill Road, Middletown, New Jersey 07701, where she will be laid to rest with her beloved parents, Charles and Eileen McDermott.  For information, directions, or to send condolences to the family, please visit, www.shorepointfh.com.
