Helen Du, 89, of Holmdel, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 9, 2025, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, New Jersey, surrounded by her children. Helen was born on November 5, 1935, in Bạc Liêu, Vietnam. She brought joy and warmth to everyone around her throughout her long life.
Helen's journey in life was marked by her deep love and devotion to her family. She met and married her husband, Kien Du, on June 26, 1964. Together, they began their life in Saigon, Vietnam where they started their family. In 1980, they courageously immigrated to the United States, first settling in Brooklyn, New York, later moving to the Bronx, New York, and finally settling in Holmdel, New Jersey in 2000.
Helen's career as Head Nurse at Bệnh Viện Nguyễn Trãi Hospital in Vietnam spanned over 15 years, showcasing her compassion and dedication to helping others. After moving to the United States, she continued to care for others as a Home Aide, taught Chinese to school-age children on Sunday in Chinatown, while raising her five children. She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother, who took immense pride in her family and found great joy in spending time with her eight beloved grandchildren.
Helen’s warmth and kindness extended beyond her family. She had a passion for cooking, sewing, and was multi-lingual, speaking several Chinese dialects (Cantonese, Mandarin, Teochew, and Hokkien), Vietnamese, and English. Her ability to connect with others through language and her nurturing spirit made her a memorable presence in the lives of many.
Helen was predeceased by her parents, Huu Tran and Ngoc Trinh; her beloved husband, Kien Du; and several brothers and sisters. Her memory lives on through her loving children, Trinh Du and his wife, Elaine, of Hong Kong; Tu Du and his wife, Natalie, of Boulder, Colorado; DoanTrang Du and her husband, Noel, of Holmdel, New Jersey; ThuTrang Du and her husband, Joseph Kirschner, of Westfield, New Jersey; and Muc Du and his wife, Kyoko, of the Bronx, New York. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Marcus Ryan Du, Alexander Shaun Du, Keana Li Du, Kaden Ping Du, Christopher T. Nivera, Grace L. Nivera, Emily M. Kirschner, and Sara M. Kirschner.
Helen's legacy of love, compassion, and dedication will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
