Harold Jackson Obituary

Harold W. Jackson, a devoted husband and devoted family member passed away at the age of 85 on October 18, 2025, in Hazlet, New Jersey.  He was born on June 10, 1940 in the island of Aruba, Netherland Antilles.  Harold’s early years were spent in Aruba and in 1955, Harold and his family immigrated to the United States, where they spent a few months in Harlem, New York.  The following year they settled in Brooklyn, New York, marking the start of a new chapter in Harold’s life.  It was there that he laid the foundation of his educational pursuits.

After graduation from Boys High School in Brooklyn at the top of his class, he entered NYC Community College, where he achieved a degree in June 1962 of Applied Science-Chemistry.  He continued his studies at Columbia University NYC at night and in May 1973 he received a Bachelor of Science-Chemistry degree.  He was advised to join the Army reserves in order to continue his employment at Internation Flavors and Fragrances (IFF); he truly loved the company and working for IFF.  Because of his knowledge of Dutch and other languages, he became part of the intelligence reserve language unit with the Army reserves.  He completed six years while working and studying.  After a short pause, he enrolled at Monmouth College and completed a master’s degree in business administration (BA) in 1985.

He is predeceased by his brothers, George “Duffy” Sylvan and Frank W. Jackson.  Harold’s legacy is carried on by his loving wife of 59 years, Lucia Jackson, his dear sister, Zelma Brooks and his cherished sisters-in-law, Enid Jackson (Frank’s widow), Carola Gittens, and Elba Headley.  His memory will also be treasured by his nieces, Giselle Carter, Cherilyn Brooks, nephews Brian D. Jackson, Jason A. Jackson, and nephew-in-law Wells Carter, who will continue to honor his life by embodying the principles he lived by.

Harold W. Jackson was a man of great intellect and even greater heart.  His kind nature was the cornerstone of his life, influencing everything from his personal relationships to his professional achievements.  He will be remembered not only for what he accomplished, but also for the compassionate way in which he moved through the world.
