Garry Katz

Garry Katz, 77, of Cliffwood Beach, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at home amidst the comfort of his loving wife and cherished schnauzers on Monday, April 25, 2022.  Garry was born on March 27, 1945, in Mengen, Germany.  He spent his early childhood living in Germany and immigrated to the United States with his family in his early teens, settling in South Plainfield, New Jersey.  Garry loved living in the United States and became a U.S citizen on November 13, 1962.  It was Garry's love of country that led him to serve in the US Army Corps of Engineers, attaining the rank of captain. After leaving the service, Garry's professional career spanned 50 years and covered many venues.  From mechanical engineering at Picatinny Arsenal to Senior Vice President of Operations with Macy's to financial advisor with Wells Fargo, Garry coached and guided his fellow workers and clients to achieve their highest aspirations and goals, before retiring from Wells Fargo in 2019.  Garry settled in Cliffwood Beach in 1990 with his beloved wife, Maryjane. Garry was an avid motorcyclist, traveling with his friends to fun destinations like Canada’s Cape Breton Island and Lake Louise, the Pacific Coast Highway in California and Las Vegas. He loved the water and sailboats and was a member of the Keyport Yacht Club.  Garry enjoyed sailboat racing and was legendary for his many victories with his all-women crew.

Garry was predeceased by his parents. Garry is survived by his devoted wife, Maryjane Mercovich, his siblings, Debra Weisman, Stephanie Poszony, Stuart Katz, and his niece and nephews. Most of all, he was a loving son, husband, brother, uncle, and friend to many.  He will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
