Frederick E. Smith

Frederick E. Smith, fondly known as “Fred”,79, of Matawan, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, January 24, 2023. Fred was born on February 10, 1943, in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. In 1959 he moved to New Jersey where he remained until his passing. Fred was a communicant of Saint Lawrence Roman Catholic Church, Laurence Harbor, New Jersey. He took pride in being a Past Grand Knight and member for over 30 years of  the Knights of Columbus, Saint Lawrence Chapter # 10281, Lawrence Harbor,  New Jersey.  Fred retired from Schwitzer Maudurit, Spotswood, New Jersey where he worked as a factory worker for many years.  Fred was a devoted son, husband, father, brother, and grandfather.  He will be forever missed and never forgotten. 

Fred was predeceased by his devoted parents, William, and Elsa (Hicks) Smith, his beloved children, Frederick Smith Jr and Teresa Smith. He is survived by the love of his life, Theresa Bernstein Smith, his children, Timothy Smith and his wife Lori of Pennsylvania, Lisa Garshnick of Pennsylvania and  Kelly Winters of Pennsylvania , a step daughter, Karen Hogan, siblings, Ray Smith and Patty Williams. Fred also had several cherished grandchildren. 

Family and friends are invited to visit on Friday, January 27, 2023 from 3:00 to 5:00 PM and on Saturday from 9:15 to 10:00 AM at Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 3269 State Highway/Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey  07730. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 AM on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at Saint Lawrence Roman Catholic Church, 109 Laurence Parkway, Laurence Harbor, New Jersey 08879.
