Evelyn J. (Schmieder) Baxter

Evelyn J. (Schmieder) Baxter, 81, of Barnegat, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by the love of her husband on Saturday evening, November 4, 2023.  She was born Evelyn J. Schmieder on October 13, 1942, in Elizabeth, New Jersey, and grew up in Port Monmouth.  On September 10, 1960, Evelyn and her husband, James, were married and started their life together in Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey and raised their family on Swartzel Drive in Middletown.  They also lived in Maryland for a period and recently settled in Barnegat, New Jersey.

Over her lifetime, Evelyn worked as a designer and was also the secretary for her husband’s company, Harbour Concrete Company, Inc., for many years.  Evelyn’s true passions were home decorating and design.  She was also a devoted homemaker, taking the utmost loving care of her home and family.  Above all else, Evelyn was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, cousin, and friend to many. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.  Evelyn’s husband, James, promises to keep the vow he made to his beloved wife.

She was predeceased by her parents, Margaret (Wasko) and Woodley A. Schmieder, and her adoring son, James J. Baxter Jr.  Evelyn is survived by her beloved and devoted husband of 63 years, James J. Baxter Sr., her loving son, Daniel W. Baxter and his wife, Cheryl Ragland-Baxter, her dear brother, William Schmieder and his wife, Margo, her cherished grandchildren, Grafton and Ella Baxter, and many treasured cousins, along with all her Baxter relatives.
