Ernest B. Pedersen, 71, of Hazlet, New Jersey, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at Complete Care in Holmdel, New Jersey. Ernest, fondly known as “Ernie”, was born on March 4, 1952 in Brooklyn, New York and grew up in Staten Island, New York. On May 16, 1976, Ernie and his wife, Ann (nee Toth), were married and began their life together in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. With the birth of their daughter, they moved to Staten Island and eventually settled in Hazlet, New Jersey, where they remained to raise their family. Before his retirement, Ernie worked for Bayshore Community Hospital as a Physical Therapist for many years. Most of all, Ernie was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend to many.
Ernie was a lifelong member of the Danish Brotherhood Association and very active in the Ukrainian American community, volunteering throughout many organizations and events. He lovingly referred to himself as the, “original Ukrainian”, due to his Viking heritage. Ernie especially loved volunteering with the Roma Pryma-Bohachevksy Ukrainian dance camps, as his children were actively involved in their camps, schools and professional ensemble. He was a focal point for many in the community and loved spending his free time at Soyuzivka Heritage Center in the Catskill Mountains. He will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
He was predeceased by his parents, Knud and Charlotte (Erikson) Pedersen, and his brothers, Knud and John Pedersen. Ernie is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 46 years, Ann Pedersen, his loving children, Julianna Haluszczak and her husband, Alex, of Hackettstown, and Michael Pedersen of Hazlet, his dear siblings, Caroline Garrigus and her husband, George, Paul Pedersen and his wife, Trudy, and Robin Fearneyhough and her husband, Bill, and his cherished grandchildren, Marianna and Nadia, along with many treasured extended family members and friends.
