Enrique Azcurra Obituary

Enrique M. Azcurra, 79, of South Amboy, New Jersey, passed away on April 27, 2026. He was born on July 15, 1946, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and lived a life marked by devotion to his family, strength of character, and a deep love for the people and passions that shaped him.

Enrique was originally from Jersey City, New Jersey, and later made a life with his beloved wife, Luisa (Taveras) Azcurra, in Argentina, where they spent meaningful years raising their family. Eventually, they returned to the United States, carrying with them the memories, values, and close bonds that had grown during their time abroad. Throughout his life, Enrique remained proud of his roots and the journey that brought him and his family together across countries and generations.

He was the son of the late Geronimo and Maria Ester (Sabbione) Azcurra. He was also predeceased by his son, Michael M. Azcurra. Enrique is survived by his loving wife, Luisa; his daughter, Luana Diaz, and her husband, Jay; and his cherished grandchildren, Eileen Abramson, Robert Abramson, Agustin Azcurra, and Camilla Azcurra. His family was the center of his world, and he was known as a very giving person who was always there whenever they needed him, no matter the circumstance.

Enrique worked as a Supervisor at Wakefern Food in Elizabeth, New Jersey, where he was respected for his dedication and steady presence. He approached his work with the same commitment and reliability that he brought to every part of his life. Those who knew him understood that he took pride in doing things well and in being someone others could count on.

Outside of work, Enrique lived with energy and discipline. He earned a black belt in karate from Don Nagel Isshinryu Karate in Jersey City, an accomplishment that reflected his perseverance and determination. He was also a competitive swimmer throughout his life, and his last competition took place in 2013. His love of swimming remained a meaningful part of who he was, and it spoke to the lifelong spirit of challenge and endurance that defined him.

Enrique was a huge fan of the Argentina Soccer Team, and he followed the sport with enthusiasm and pride. He was known for having a big heart and for being stubborn, qualities that often went hand in hand in a man who cared deeply and stood firmly by the people and beliefs he loved. Above all, he will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose presence brought comfort, strength, and devotion to those around him.

His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. Enrique M. Azcurra leaves behind a legacy of love, loyalty, and resilience that will not be forgotten.
