Emmons Stevens, fondly known to family and friends as Steve or “Grampy”, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2026, at Bayshore Medical Center in Holmdel, New Jersey, at the age of 95. Born on September 19, 1930, in Millinocket, Maine, he lived a long and meaningful life marked by service, hard work, devotion to family, and a warm spirit that touched everyone who knew him.
Steve grew up in Maine and carried the values of his upbringing with him throughout his life. He later made his home in Shrewsbury and Red Bank before settling in Hazlet in 1997, where he remained surrounded by the people and community he loved. Wherever he lived, he was known as a steady, dependable, and kind presence. He was a man who stayed active, always had something to do, and seemed to approach each day with energy and purpose.
A proud United States Navy veteran, Steve served aboard the Intrepid, a chapter of his life that reflected his sense of duty and commitment to his country. His military service remained an important part of his identity, and he carried himself with the quiet pride of someone who had answered the call to serve. After his time in the Navy, he built a career in the computer industry as an IT technician and engineer. He was respected for his skill, his work ethic, and the reliability he brought to his profession.
Steve will be remembered most for the kind of person he was. He was generous, sweet, and caring man; those qualities were evident in the way he treated others. He gave of himself freely and made people feel welcome and valued. He was also known for his quirky laugh, a sound that brought smiles to those around him and reflected the warmth and humor that were part of his everyday life. He had a way of making ordinary moments memorable simply by being himself.
He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Marion Stevens, and his siblings, Charles Stevens, Barbara Stevens, Elaine Allen, and Norma Tardiff. He was also predeceased by his niece, Sheila Allen, his cousin, Terry Lyon, and his companion, Richard “George” Viele. He is survived by his nephew, Paul Allen and his wife, Winnie, as well as his loving family in New Jersey, Rosary and Danielle Salmieri, Jodi and Frank Puma, Andrew and Darian Kutzman, and Frankie and Addison Puma. Their love and presence were an important part of his life, and he cherished the bonds he shared with them.
Arrangements were entrusted to Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 3269 State Highway/Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey 07730.
