Edward Hines Jr. Obituary

Edward Hines Jr., a cherished family man, and respected electrician, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2026, at the age of 67 in Perth Amboy, NJ. Born on July 1, 1958, in Newark, NJ, Edward's life was a testament to his enduring humor, love, and the joy he found in the simple pleasures of life.

Edward's journey began as the beloved son of the late Edward Hines Sr. and Ernestine (Kirkland) Hines. He grew up in a lively household alongside his sisters, the late Gail Kirkland and Vivian Hines. Edward's life was enriched by the love of his surviving wife, Karen Dryja, and the pride he took in his children, Chantina Mitchell and Edward Hines III and his better half Laura. His legacy continued to blossom with the joy brought by his grandchildren, Jourdyn, Chrystian, and Madisyn. Edward's brother, Gregory Hines, remains to honor his memory, as do many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and a host of friends who were touched by his warm spirit.

After moving to Roselle, NJ, in 1982 and later to Holmdel, NJ, in 1997, Edward finally settled in Keyport in 2015. He was a skilled electrician who took pride in his work and retired with a reputation for excellence. His work ethic and dedication to his craft stayed with him throughout his life.

Edward's interests were as unique as his personality. He had a passion for singing, which would often bring smiles to those around him. Known for his humorous complaints about the world's imperfections, Edward never failed to entertain and endear himself to others. His love for old classic cars and antiquing reflected his appreciation for history and the stories embedded in well-loved objects.

Described by those who knew him as funny and loving, Edward's ability to light up a room with his humor and warmth was unmatched. He was the kind of person who left a lasting impression, not just through his words but through his actions and the genuine connections he forged.

Edward Hines Jr.'s life was a beautiful melody composed of laughter, love, and the happiness he found in every day. As we bid farewell to this remarkable man, we celebrate the indelible mark he has left on our hearts and the world. His memory will continue to inspire and comfort us, much like the songs he loved to sing. Edward's life was a journey well-traveled, and his story will be told with fondness and a smile by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
