Edith C Long

Edith C. Long, 82, of Lakewood, New Jersey, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family, on July 21, 2026, at Meadowbrook Respiratory and Nursing Care Center in Matawan, New Jersey. She was born on March 7, 1944, in Accomack County, Virginia, and lived a life marked by love, devotion, and quiet strength.

Born and raised in Virginia, Edith carried the values of family, hard work, and kindness with her throughout her life. She later moved to Pocomoke City, Maryland, where she met the love of her life, Michael. Their bond grew into a lifelong partnership, and they were married on January 26, 1964. Together, they began their life in Baltimore before relocating to New Jersey in 1969. They first made their home in Keyport and later settled in Matawan, where they built a beautiful life and raised their family.

Edith treasured the time she was able to spend at home caring for her husband and children. She found great purpose in creating a warm and loving home, and she devoted herself fully to the well-being of those she loved. Her family was the center of her world, and she gave of herself generously and without hesitation. She was known for being loving, thoughtful, and selfless, qualities that were reflected in the way she lived each day.

She enjoyed taking trips with her family and friends to Atlantic City, where she made lasting memories and shared many happy moments with those closest to her. She also loved cooking, and her meals were a reflection of the care and affection she poured into everything she did. Above all else, Edith cherished time spent with her family. She was deeply dedicated to the people she loved, and her presence brought comfort, warmth, and stability to those around her.

Edith was predeceased by her beloved husband of 59 years, Michael A. Long Sr., her dear   parents, Vincent and Anna (Wallop) Taylor, and her brothers, William Taylor and Ernest Taylor. She is survived by her loving children, Malinda “Peb” Lankford, Michael A. Long Jr. and his wife, Gina, Bryan V. Long and his wife, Nancy, and Erica C. Long. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Mia, Jordan, E’lani, Bryanna, Jenna, and Chase.

Edith is also survived by her caring siblings, Malinda Lankford and her husband, Roger, Dorothy Marshall, Lawynda Holmes and her husband, Adrian, and Myer Taylor, along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Her family was a source of great pride and joy, and she will be remembered for the love she gave so freely and the example she set through her steadfast devotion.

Edith C. Long will be remembered as a woman of grace, compassion, and enduring love. Her life was a testament to the power of family, commitment, and kindness. She touched the hearts of many and leaves behind a legacy of warmth and devotion that will continue to live on in the lives of those who knew and loved her. Edith will be greatly missed, always loved, and never forgotten.
