Dr. James White Obituary

Dr. James T. White, 70, of Hazlet, New Jersey, passed away on July 5, 2026, at Bayshore Medical Center in Holmdel, New Jersey, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 19, 1955, in Newark, New Jersey, and lived a life marked by intelligence, integrity, devotion to family, and a deep commitment to education and service.

Dr. White graduated from Raritan High School in Hazlet, New Jersey, and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from St. John’s University. He later received his master’s in teaching from Monmouth University and his Doctorate in Education from Walden University. His dedication to learning was evident not only in his own academic achievements, but also in the example he set for others through a lifetime of perseverance and purpose.

He began his professional career in the maritime shipping business, where he worked for several years before following his true calling in education. He later became a teacher and coach in the Hazlet Township School system, where he served for more than 30 years before his retirement. In the classroom, he was known for his patience, his encouragement, and his ability to connect with students in a meaningful way. Even with his advanced degrees, he remained a teacher at heart, always reaching for his students and inspiring them to do their best. Teaching was not simply his profession, but his passion and his vocation.

Jim was deeply involved in his community and faith. He worshipped and served as a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Hazlet, New Jersey, where he found fellowship and purpose. He also gave his time and energy to many civic and community efforts, including serving as co-treasurer of his Raritan High School Class of 1974 Reunion Committee. In his younger years, he served as the Hazlet Township Tax Collector and Custodian of School Monies, and he was also a volunteer fireman for the North Centerville Fire Company in Hazlet. In addition, he served as chairperson of the Keyport Democratic Committee, reflecting his commitment to public service and civic responsibility.

Those who knew Dr. White will remember him as a man of great intellect, genuine spirit, and great integrity. He was passionate about his work, devoted to his family, and steadfast in his service to others. His legacy will live on in the many lives he touched as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, educator, coach, and friend.

He was predeceased by his parents, James and Julia (Kennedy) White, his brother Michael White, and his granddaughter Charlotte Mae. Their memory remained close to his heart throughout his life, and he carried their love with him in all that he did.

Jim was the beloved husband of Barbara (Banner) White and a loving father to Christopher White, Jacqueline White and her partner David Jacob, and Jeffrey King and his wife Bridget. He was a cherished Pop-Pop to Alexavier, Maverick, and Rowan. He is also survived by his dear brother, Christopher White and his wife Delores, along with many treasured in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends who will remember him with affection and gratitude.
