Dolores R. Hartt (nee Poole), fondly known as "Laurie", died peacefully in Arbor Terrace Assisted Living on December 26, 2020 in Shrewsbury, New Jersey at the age of 87.
Dolores was born on May 13, 1933, in her beloved Brooklyn, New York to Adolph and Agnes Poole. She graduated from St. Brendan High School in 1951. She married Richie in a blizzard on January 16, 1954. They lived in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, where they welcomed their children. In 1965 they moved to Eltingville, Staten Island, and she was a wife, mother and homemaker for almost thirty years before moving to a retirement community in Brick, New Jersey in 1994. In Brick, they found a new life. Laurie was 'never home', as her kids liked to tease her. If she wasn't at bingo in St. Dominic's or the Jewish synagogue, she was playing cards at the Princeton Commons Clubhouse or teaching the ladies how to play Mexican Dominoes, which she picked up during winters in Marco Island, Florida. She could also be found at a Ladies Club luncheon or at a one-armed bandit in Atlantic City. Laurie was an active and dedicated member of St. Dominic Catholic Church.
After being diagnosed with Multiple System Atrophy, Parkinson's type a few years ago, her children moved them to an independent living facility in Jackson in 2019, and then to Arbor Terrace a few months ago.
She was predeceased by her adored grandson, Richard A. Hartt and her parents, Adolph and Agnes (Chambers) Poole. Laurie is survived by the love of her life for 67 years, husband, Richard J. Hartt; her devoted children, Ellen P. Gaudenzi and husband, Robert, of Hazlet, Richard T. Hartt and wife, Diane, of Old Bridge, three adoring granddaughters, Jennifer Hanafin and husband, John, of Old Bridge, Lauren Sica and husband, Thomas, of Hazlet, and Allison Gaudenzi of Eatontown; loving granddaughter-in-law, Erica Hartt; and six great-grandchildren, Charlotte Hartt, Amelia Hartt, Madison Sica, Aiden Hartt, Ryan Sica, and Harper Hanafin. She also leaves behind her lifelong friend and only sibling, Mary Coakley and husband, William, of Naples Florida.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Monday evening, December 28, 2020 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM and Tuesday morning, December 29, 2020 from 8:45 to 9:30 AM at Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 3269 State Highway/Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey 07730. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Benedict Roman Catholic Church, 165 Bethany Road, Holmdel, New Jersey 07733. Interment will follow at St. Anne's Cemetery in Wall Township, New Jersey.
In lieu of flowers, donations in loving memory of Laurie to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital would be greatly appreciated. To donate, please visit, stjude.org.
Due to the current pandemic, the family wishes to express that there is no pressure or obligation to attend in-person for the visitation. They recognize the abundance of caution all people feel in these uncertain times and circumstances.
As per the regulations imposed through the State of New Jersey, there will now be a maximum of 100 persons allowed in the funeral home at one time. Any and all members of the public who wish to attend the visitation are requited to wear a mask and socially distant when paying their respects to Dolores' family. They also request that the visit be kept short to allow for more visitors to pay their respects. We appreciate your understanding during this time.
