Desmond Mitchell

Desmond Mitchell, 74, of Cliffwood Beach, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 1, 2020 at Bayshore Community Hospital in Holmdel.  Desmond was born on October 26, 1946 in Grenada, where he grew up.  In 1968, Desmond immigrated to the United States and relocated to Brooklyn, New York, where he met his beloved wife, Shirley.  On August 22, 1970, Desmond and Shirley were married and began their lives together in Brooklyn.  In 1987, they settled in Cliffwood Beach, New Jersey, where they remained to raise their family.  Desmond worked for Target International Shipping Company located out of Linden, New Jersey with their export logistics department for many years.  He was a loving husband, father, brother, and friend to many.

He was predeceased by his parents, James and Lena (John) Mitchell, and his siblings, Lenore, Byron, and Raphael.  Desmond is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 50 years, Shirley (Peters) Mitchell, his loving son, Andrew Mitchell of South Plainfield, and his dear siblings, Sybil, Cynthia, Olivia, Ignatius, Anthony, Cecilia, and Martin Mitchell.  Desmond will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Friday morning, November 6, 2020 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 3269 State Highway/Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey 07730.  Beginning at 12:00 PM, family and friends will share memories and eulogize Desmond, immediately followed by a prayer service at 12:30 PM.  Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, 360 Broadway, Union Beach, New Jersey 07735.  For information, directions, or to send condolences to the family, please visit, www.shorpeointfh.com.
