Carmine DiMella Obituary

Carmine DiMella, 80, of Keyport, New Jersey passed away peacefully at Bayshore Medical Center on December 31, 2020, due to complications of Covid-19.

He was born on July 19, 1940 in Morcone, Italy and spent much of his childhood in Buenos Aires, Argentina.  He emigrated to the United States as a young man, first living in the Bronx, New York and settling in Keyport, New Jersey. He was a proud Veteran of Vietnam. He continued to serve in the United States Army for several years after his service in the war, rising to the rank of Sergeant and bringing him to Germany, Korea and several other stations around the United States. Carmine could fluently speak five languages.  During travels to Buenos Aires in 2010 and Morcone in 2019 he was able to visit family, friends and places special to him.

A retired carpenter and foreman belonging to local unions in both Red Bank and New York City, he was proud to work on several large construction sites, including those of the original World Trade Center and the new WTC complex after 2001.  He volunteered his carpentry skills to the building of the New Jersey Veteran's Memorial in Holmdel in 1995 and the Habitat for Humanity in Monmouth County after the destruction caused by Hurricane Sandy.  In his retirement Carmine was an avid fisherman and woodworker.  Right up to his 80th year he could be seen delivering a freshly-caught striped bass to friends, a birdhouse that he built from local driftwood to neighbors, or a hearty laugh to anyone he met.

Carmine was predeceased by his beloved wife of over 40 years Marie "Dee' DiMella, his parents, Pasquale and Susanna DiMella, and his brother Romeo DiMella.  He is survived by his brother Antonio DiMella and his wife Maria "Kuky" DiMella, his son Matthew DiMella, his daughter Nicole DiMella and her husband Michael Aberback, his cherished grandchildren, Lillian and Elliott Aberback, and many relatives and friends, local and abroad. Carmine will be sadly missed, but never forgotten.
