Benedetto Battista, 82, of Hazlet, New Jersey died unexpectedly at home on April 20, 2022. He was born on March 3, 1940, in Mola di Bari, Italy. After moving from Italy at the age of 16, he lived in Brooklyn, NY with his family. He married Francesca (Mele) Battista on October 4,1969 and they moved to Hazlet. NJ in 1972, where they shared a life together for 52 years. Ben was employed as a machinist for 45 years, working at both Chevron & Hess Oil Corporation.
Ben was predeceased by his parents, Mario and Giovanna (Del Re) Battista and his sister, Vittoria Florio. He is survived by his wife, Francesca, his loving children, Jennifer Battista, and her husband, Steven and Vanessa Battista, his cherished grandchildren, Roman and Marcus, and his siblings, John Battista, Annette Genovese, and Rufina Minutillo. He is also survived by many in-laws, nieces and nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Ben loved taking frequent walks, maintaining his yard, and playing soccer with his grandsons. He especially enjoyed his wife’s cooking, music and dancing, playing poker, sneaking chocolate, and drinking a cold Budweiser. Ben loved watching sports, doing cross word puzzles, his daily dose of Jeopardy, and spending time in Long Beach Island with his family. He had an amazing sense of humor and will be well-remembered for his quick wit and endless supply of corny jokes. Ben will be deeply missed, and his smile will never be forgotten.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Sunday, April 24, 2022, from 12:00 to 3:00 PM at Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 3269 State Highway/Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey 07730. A prayer service will be offered at the funeral home during the visitation hours. In respect of the family wishes, he will be privately cremated.
