Bacelicia Fernandes, 95, of South Amboy, New Jersey passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 7, 2025, while holding her daughter’s hand and listening to fado music at Complete Care at Bayshore in Holmdel, New Jersey. Bacelicia was born Bacelicia Guerreiro in 1929 in Ourique, Portugal. She later moved to Lisbon where she met and married her husband, Jorge Fernandes. With their daughter, they immigrated to the United States in 1963, where they made a life in Newark, New Jersey. In 1972 they moved back to Portugal for five years, returning to the United States in 1977. Bacelicia worked different jobs but her favorite was at Saint James Hospital in housekeeping and in the sewing room. After retirement in 1990, with her daughter and family, she moved to Cliffwood Beach, New Jersey and again in 2006 to South Amboy New Jersey. She enjoyed sewing; cooking, dancing, but mostly she enjoyed traveling. She was always happy and adventurous. She was loved as a daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Her positive attitude was infectious and will be fondly missed, as will this beautiful woman.
Bacelicia was predeceased by her parents, Augusto Ventura and Barbara Guerreiro, her beloved husband, Jorge Fernandes, her siblings, Herminia, Francisco, Maria, Manuel, Joaquim, Jose, Antonio, Jacinto, Eliseu, and Arnaldo, two nephews, two nieces, a grandnephew, and a great grandnephew. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Elisabete Mazzeo and her husband Miguel of South Amboy, her cherished grandchildren, Michael Mazzeo and his wife Maggie, Krystel Copper and her husband Ron, and her treasured great grandchildren, Will, Evie, and Charley, her sister, Inácia, and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews, great grandnieces and nephews, and great great grandnieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Tuesday,, September 9th, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and Wednesday morning, September 10th from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM at Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 3269 State Highway/Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey 07730. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, September 10th at 10:00 AM at Saint Lawrence Roman Catholic Church, 109 Lawrence Parkway, Lawrence Harbor, New Jersey 08879.
