April Seligson, 81, of Colts Neck, New Jersey, peacefully passed away at home on Thursday May 15, 2025. She was born on March 19, 1944 in Jersey City, New Jersey. She grew up and attended school in Maywood, New Jersey, and lived in Maywood and Hackensack until she was 48. She always loved the hot and sunny weather, so in 1992 April and her second husband Lenny moved to Clearwater, Florida. They lived there together for the following 22 years. After Leonard’s death in 2014 she returned to New Jersey to live with her daughter and family Colts Neck.
April received her degree from Bergen Community College in 1978. She worked as an Operating Room Technologist at Holy Name Hospital in Teaneck, New Jersey for many years. After relocating to Florida she worked as a Meeting Planner for a medical integration consulting firm in Clearwater. April had many friends and was definitely a people person. She also loved animals, especially cats, and spent a lot of time in her last years cuddled in bed with her tabby cat Jesse. April was an excellent cook and baker. She was always excited to try out a new recipe on us. She loved to cook with her granddaughters.
She was a talented seamstress and used to make matching outfits for herself and her daughter back in the 1970’s. She even made her sister in law’s wedding dress! She was an avid exerciser and was certainly part of the 1980’s aerobics craze! She loved music and loved to dance. Ballet was her favorite. She loved the arts and loved to attend the ballet, plays, and concerts. She also loved to travel. She was lucky enough to go on many trips as a meeting planner, though her favorite way to travel was by ship. She went on more cruises than we can even count! She loved to laugh and joke. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a beautiful smile. She enjoyed going for appetizer’s at Friday’s. Sunning herself while she drank her favorite coffee drinks from Panera. Ordering Domino’s pizza for delivery. And she loved cookies!!
April was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She held her title of Grammy in the highest regard. She loved nothing more than being a grandmother. She will be so deeply missed, forever loved, and never ever forgotten.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Geraldine (Bunolz) Johnson, her first husband and father of her daughter, Lawrence Seligson, and her husband Leonard Sciacca. April is survived by her daughter, Leslie Ann Russell and her husband Michael of Colts Neck, and her stepdaughters Gina Censullo and her husband Fred, Nicole Jackson and her husband Ron. Her grandchildren, Chloe Cohen and her husband Rey, Chelsea Spencer, Daisy Russell, Delilah Russell, Anthony Censullo, Michael Censullo, and Zak Jackson. And her brother Vincent Scalia & his wife Margaret Heupler. And her sister Maria Scalia.
