Anthony D. Sarnelle, 97, of Holmdel, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 25, 2022 at Bayside Manor in Keansburg. Anthony was born on May 20, 1925 in Brooklyn, New York, where he grew up. Anthony and his beloved wife, Helen, were married and began their life and family together in Brooklyn, New York. In 2004, they settled in New Jersey. Before his retirement, Anthony worked as a Lieutenant for the New York City Fire Department for many years. He was also a proud United States Navy veteran, having served our country during World War II. Most of all, Anthony was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great grandfather. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Anna (Sepe) Sarnelle, his beloved wife of over 70 years, Helen (Fico) Sarnelle, his dear siblings, Alphonse Sarnelle, Joseph Sarnelle, and Nancy Sousa, and his brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Mario Pisani, Vivian Sarnelle, and Louis Sousa. Anthony is survived by his loving children, Elena Scanlon and her husband, Walter, of Brick, Joanne Ferrarese and her husband, Mike, of Massapequa, New York, Dr. Joseph A. Sarnelle and his wife, Anne, of Holmdel, Larraine Loconte and her husband, John, of Woodbridge, and Dr. James Sarnelle and his wife, Judith, of Stamford, Connecticut, his dear sister, Irene Pisani, and his sister-in-law, Julie Sarnelle, along with 17 cherished grandchildren and 21 adored great grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Thursday, July 28, 2022 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM and Friday morning, July 29, 2022 from 8:45 to 9:30 AM at Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 3269 State Highway/Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey 07730. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday morning, July 29, 2022 at 10:00 AM at St. Benedict Roman Catholic Church, 165 Bethany Road, Holmdel, New Jersey 07733.
