Angel L. Matos, 84, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at Laurel Bay Health and Rehabilitation Center in Keansburg. Angel was born on August 1, 1942, in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, and lived a life marked by love, generosity, and a spirited devotion to his family and friends.
Before his retirement, Angel worked for many years as a forklift operator in Totowa, New Jersey. He was known for his strong work ethic and dependable nature, and he took pride in earning an honest living through years of steady dedication.
Angel was also a proud member of the Spanish American Legion Hall in Keyport, New Jersey, where he enjoyed the fellowship of friends and the comfort of community. He especially loved playing dominoes with his companions and was often found cooking for gatherings, sharing both his time and his talents with those around him. He found great enjoyment in spending time at the Keyport waterfront, where he could relax and appreciate the simple pleasures of life. His presence brought energy and warmth wherever he went, and his family lovingly described him as a firecracker, a fitting reflection of his lively personality and unmistakable spirit.
Beyond his lively nature, Angel was deeply kind and giving. He was known for helping others whenever he could, offering both his time and his money to people in need without hesitation. His selflessness left a lasting impression on all who knew him. He was a man who gave freely, loved deeply, and lived with a generous heart.
Angel is survived by his loving sons, John Matos and Angel Matos, and his beloved daughters, Elsa Matos and her husband Giani and Diane Mendez and her husband Sam. He took great pride in his family and cherished the many moments he shared with them throughout his life. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren, Eva Geiler and her husband Danny, Sean Matos, Deanna Matos, Steven Mendez, David Mendez, Louis Matos, Nicholas Matos, Christopher Matos, Johnathon Matos, Derrick Matos, and Jessica Matos, as well as his treasured great-grandchildren, Rosalina, Julia, Gabriella, Alexandre, Eloni, Jovanni, Noah, and Bella. Each of them held a special place in his heart, and he found joy in watching his family grow across the generations.
Angel will be remembered as a loving, spirited, and selfless man whose life touched many. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, his friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him.
