Alfred G. Robinson Jr, 63, of Cliffwood Beach, New Jersey, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, died peacefully surrounded by family at home on January 19th, 2021.
Alfred was born in Jersey City, NJ. He entered army active service in June 1975. After discharge from the army reserve in 1981, he worked varying jobs including with Armistead before landing his dream job on the Jersey City Police Department (JCPD), where he was appointed on April 4, 1989 and assigned to the East district. His other assignments included the Tactical Force Operations and the North District. At the time of his retirement on July 1, 2014, he was assigned to the Support Services Bureau. During his tenure, he was the recipient of 24 Excellent Police Service awards, 2 Commendations and 1 Combat Cross. After his retirement, he returned to work for the JCPD as a civilian worker in the Support Services Bureau.
Alfred was predeceased by his loving parents Alfred G. Robinson, Sr. and Marion Mines Robinson and his beloved wife Mary June Tierney Robinson, his sister, Janice Robinson and brother, Joseph Robinson. He is survived by his loving children Danielle Ashley and her husband Thomas of Flourtown, PA; Shannon Marie Jelinski and her husband Matt of Middletown, NJ; and Alfred Robinson III of Cliffwood Beach, NJ. He is also survived by his cherished grandsons Matthew and Aiden Jelinski of Middletown, NJ; Parker Ashley of Flourtown, PA; his dear sister Geralyn Leipold (“Sister”) and her husband Raymond of Rochester, New York; his brother and sister-in-laws, Colleen Tierney, Renee Leatham, Pamela Tierney, Larry Tierney and his wife Robin, Michelle Szell and her husband Scott and many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
Alfred was a devoted father and grandfather, always expressing concern and worry for his family and beloved pets. He put his family and home above all else. He was known for his quirky habit of amassing quantities of handwritten notes, which his children and grandchildren will continue to reminisce over, a habit assuredly acquired from his many years with the JCPD. He was a multi-layered complex character, leaving his family and friends with many hours of stories about his views of the world and those around him. He was known for his ability to weave a tapestry of language that represented his emotions like no other. He loved television and his personality and quirks were shaped after the likes of Ralph Kramden, Archie Bunker, Andy Griffith, as well as officers Gunther Toody and Francis Muldoon. He was a proud yet private man, sharing stories of achievements regarding his family but never overly boasting about his own successes. He was like no other and in the words of Frank Sinatra, Alfred’s sentiments always remained, “I did it my way”.
