Alfonso Gomez, 63, of Old Bridge, New Jersey, passed away on Sunday, December 13th, 2020. Al was born on March 21st, 1957 in Brooklyn, New York, where he grew up before settling in Old Bridge. He was a graduate of Aviation High School and went on to receive his BBA from Baruch College. Alfonso married Patricia Pesantes in 1988. He dedicated himself to providing for his family and community. Al worked as a financial advisor for 28 years at T.I.A.A. After his retirement in 2015, Al's activities were many, he worked at the Old Bridge YMCA and substitute taught in the Old Bridge School District. He loved baseball and umpired for the USABL Umpires Association. Al was also a member of the USCG Auxillary Flotilla 24. Above all, Al was a loving son, husband, father, brother and uncle and will be greatly missed.
Alfonso was predeceased by his parents, Alfonso Gomez Sr and Lydia Gomez. He is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years, Patricia, his loving children, Alexis and Eric, his siblings Alice Rivera, and her husband Orlando, Agrimaldi Velez, and his wife Lancy, José Velez, Juanita Vera, and her husband Luis, and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
A Celebration of Life gathering will take place on Friday, December 18th, 2020 from 5:00 to 9:00 PM and Saturday morning, December 19th, 2020 from 8:30 AM to 9:15 AM at Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 3269 State Highway/Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey 07730. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday morning, December 19th, 2020 at 10:00 AM at Most Holy Redeemer, 133 Amboy Road, Matawan, New Jersey 07747. In respect of Alfonso’s wishes, he will be privately cremated. In lieu of flowers, the family will accept donations to establish a baseball scholarship fund in Alfonso's name.
