William "Sonny" Jackson III, 65, of Matawan, New Jersey, went home on December 30, 2018 at Bayshore Community Hospital in Holmdel, New Jersey. William was born on April 25, 1953 in Boston, Massachusetts to Earline Morris and William Jackson II. He was raised in Roxbury, Massachusetts where he attended and graduated from Hingham High School in 1971. He started a job at Bell Atlantic at 17 years old, immediately after graduating high school. William joined the United States Army in 1973 at the age of 20 and served in the military during the Vietnam War.
After discharge from the Army, he returned to his job at what is now AT&T. He remained a loyal employee of AT&T for over 45 years until his retirement. He was also employed at Matawan Regional High School as security for over 15 years.
On April 17, 1982 Sonny married Deborah Parrish of Matawan and of that union, 4 children were born. Their four children joined his oldest daughter, Nicole, from his previous marriage and he was a loving and caring father.
Sonny was active with the community youth, coaching football, baseball, softball, basketball and track and field. He also assisted with several high school athletic programs, leaving an everlasting impact on all he came in contact with. During his involvement with youth sports he held the position of President of Pop-Warner football, President of the Huskie Club, Treasurer of Pop-Warner football and he always volunteered for any activity that needed his help. He loved bowling on Sundays, playing cards with his family, and socializing with members of the Shore Knights SAC. Even though he wasn't active, he considered Second Baptist Church of Matawan his home.
William was predeceased by his father, William Jackson II and his father-in-law, Ralph Malinconico. He leaves to mourn his loss, his beloved wife of 36 years, Deborah (Parrish) Jackson, his 3 loving daughters, Nicole Jackson Walker and her husband, Brian, of Tinton Falls, New Jersey, Sunni Jackson-Pruss and her husband, Jonathan, of Pensacola, Florida, and Whitney Montgomery and her husband Nathan, of Litchfield Park, Arizona, his 2 adoring sons, William J. Jackson and his wife, Randi of Mantua, New Jersey, and Justin A. Parrish Jackson of Matawan, New Jersey. He is also survived by his 8 cherished grandchildren, Donovan, Niani, Sydnee, Emerson, Laela, Braelan, Jameson, and Leona, his treasured mother, Earline Morris of Boston, Massachusetts, his dear siblings, Sheldon and his wife, Pamela, of Boston, Massachusetts, Michael and his wife, Djenne, of North Carolina, Valerie Akins-Long of Boston, Massachusetts, Loray White and her husband, Michael, of Maryland, and Fern Jackson Seay of Boston Massachusetts. He also leaves behind many cherished extended family and friends, including his mother-in-law, Constance Malinconico, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews, and will be missed by an abundance of the community's youth whose lives he touched in so many ways. Most of all, he'll be missed by his beloved dog, Loki.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Friday, January 4, 2019 from 5:00 to 9:00 PM and Saturday, January 5, 2019 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the First Presbyterian Church of Matawan, 888 State Route/NJ 34, Matawan, New Jersey 07747. A Church Service will be offered on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at the First Presbyterian Church of Matawan beginning at 12:00 PM. Entombment will follow at Holmdel Cemetery Mausoleum, 900 Holmdel Road, Holmdel, New Jersey 07733.
