Sarah "Sadie" Stewart Obituary

Sarah Stewart, fondly known as “Sadie” by her family and friends, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, New Jersey.  She was born Sarah Lynch on July 16, 1931 in Greenock, Scotland, where she grew up and met her beloved husband, Allan.  Sarah and Allan were married on February 6, 1951 and began their lives together in Scotland.  On December 4, 1959, Sarah and her family relocated to the United States, settling in Elizabeth, New Jersey.  A few years later in 1966, they moved to Woodbridge, New Jersey and also had a home in Dunedin, Florida, where they enjoyed spending time together.  In 2004, they settled in Whiting, New Jersey.

Sarah was a wonderful wife and caring mother, but most of all, her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her passion.  She was an amazing grandmother and was adored by all her grandchildren.  Throughout her life, Sarah traveled the world with her husband Allan and instilled her love of travel in her grandchildren.  She was an avid golfer, loved a good book, a proper cup of tea and always kept a very tidy house.  She also enjoyed baking and was famous for her Scottish shortbread known as “Grandma Cookies”.  She loved the arts and her favorite museum was The Metropolitan Museum of Art in Manhattan.  In line with her love of the arts, Sarah enjoyed visiting Manhattan with her family and going to see Broadway plays.  She also wrote short stories of her own over the years and was part of a singing group known as the “Sweet Adeline’s”.  She was devout to her faith and religiously said the Rosary.  Above all else, Sarah was the heart of her family and was loved by everyone she knew.

She was predeceased by her beloved and devoted husband, Allan Stewart, her loving son, Gerard James Stewart, and her dear siblings, Pat, Rose, Margaret, John, Mary, Catherine, Elizabeth, and Jim.  Sarah is survived by her loving children, Allan Stewart and his fiancé, Diane, of Dunedin, Florida, and Caroline Malley and her husband, Ken, of Hazlet, New Jersey, her dear daughter-in-law, Kim Stewart, and her adoring sister, with whom she was very close, Ellen McGuire of Gourock, Scotland.  Sarah is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Allan Stewart, Kenneth Stewart, Robert Stewart, Kristenlacey Fike and her husband, Aaron, Heather Lyczkowski, Brittany Blackmore and her husband, Tyler, and Kimberly Sowder, her 12 treasured great grandchildren ,especially AJ, Danicka and Audriana Sadie with whom she spent a lot of special time with, her very special niece who was like her daughter, Josephine DeDominicis, the Lynch Clan and many special nieces and nephews.  Sarah will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.
