Murtagh G. Morgan, 77, of Hazlet, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Friday, June 21, 2019. Murtagh was born on May 12, 1942 in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He grew up in Ireland, where he remained until he moved to the United States in April of 1964. On February 6, 1965, Murtagh and his wife, Ellen, were married and began their lives together in Kearny, New Jersey. Shortly after, Murtagh was drafted into the United States Army. He proudly served our country during the Vietnam War from September 1966 to 1968 and was awarded a Purple Heart. A few years after the war, Murtagh and Ellen moved to Sewaren, New Jersey, before settling in Hazlet in 1979 where they raised their family. Before retirement, Murtagh was the owner of Bri-Mel Electric for many years.
He was predeceased by his parents, Murtagh and Georgina (McMurray) Morgan and his baby sister, Doreen Morgan. Murtagh is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 54 years, Ellen "Patsy" (Rice) Morgan, his loving children, Brian Morgan and his wife, Minnelly, of Union Beach, New Jersey, and Melissa Marsiello and her husband, Robert, of Hazlet, New Jersey, his dear siblings, Brian Morgan and Mary Rafferty and her husband, Daniel, and his cherished grandchildren, Isabella, Ian, Ava, Evan, Lynell, and Jaslene. Murtagh will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Sunday, June 23, 2019 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM and Monday morning, June 24, 2019 from 8:15 to 9:00 AM at the Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 3269 State Highway/Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey 07730. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday morning, June 24, 2019 at 9:30 AM at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, 727 Highway 36, Union Beach, New Jersey 07735.
