John Matthew Clark, 53, of Hazlet, New Jersey, passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2018. John was born on June 16, 1964 in Red Bank, New Jersey, and grew up in Hazlet, New Jersey. He spent a few years living in Englishtown with his children, before returning to Hazlet to raise his family.
The 5th of 10 children, John was the quietest one among the many voices insisting on being heard. He was kind and gentle. He was at his most boisterous when he played in the lake in Vermont with his sons, nieces and nephews. The yearly week(s) vacation in Vermont was when he was most carefree, as he was the primary caregiver of his two young sons who were his greatest joy. He delighted in the serene vistas of the lake, mountains, night time star gazing and marshmallow roasting, amid the boisterous cacophony of nieces, nephews, his siblings and spouses, assorted cousins and a few tag-along friends, which often prompted admonitions from the park ranger to “keep it down.” John worked hard and had little time for sport, but at times enjoyed gardening, fishing, playing cards with his father and games with his sons. John wasn’t chatty but every now and again, he’d enter into a conversation and allow us to see a snippet of his intellect and new interests. John was loved so very much but we wished we could have told him and showed him more often. Losing our father and grandfather, Kenneth, was hard, but losing John is like losing a piece of our hearts in the puzzle that makes us the “Clark Kids.” It is our family vow to John that we love and care for his sons well so that they will know just how much they are loved and how we so loved him.
He was predeceased by his parents, Virginia C. (Gough) and Kenneth F. Clark Sr. John is survived by his beloved sons, John Matthew Clark Jr. and Daniel Clark, his dear brothers and sisters, Gina Woda and her husband, Jeff, Ellie Strbo and her husband, Joe, Laura Pederson and her husband, Bill, Kenny Clark and his wife, Michele, George Clark, Ralph Clark, Kelly McQuillan, David Clark, and Christian Clark and his wife, Dena, along with his adored "adopted sister", Lorraine Devlin. John is also survived by his cherished nieces and nephews, Ralph Jr., Mackenzie, Katie, Kenny, Alyssa, Max, Joey, Zachary, Connor, Sebastian, Dalton, Emilie, Gaby, Megan, Alexandra, Christian, Sam, Sofie, Ryan, George, Zach, Morgan, Colby, Ross, Skylar and Kaylee. He will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.
In respect of John's wishes, he will be privately cremated. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial visitation on Sunday, March 4, 2018 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at the Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 3269 State Highway/Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey 07730.
