Joan K. (Maushardt) Coutu

     Joan K. Coutu, 83, of Hazlet, New Jersey, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Monday, September 11, 2017 at Bayshore Community Hospital in Holmdel, New Jersey.  She was born Joan K. Maushardt on August 4, 1934 in Bronx, New York, where she grew up and met her beloved husband, Charles.  On May 28, 1955, Joan and Charlie were married and began their life together in the Bronx. In 1964, they settled in Hazlet, New Jersey to continue raising their family.

     Joan was a beautiful, gentle woman, full of integrity.  She was a wonderful daughter, a caring sister, a devoted wife, and the epitome of what a loving mother and grandmother should be.  Joan's family was her pride and joy.  She was an avid reader and passed on her love of books to her family.  Joan loved walking, bird watching, and gardening her flowers in the spring and summer time.  She was also a woman of great faith and a loyal communicant of St. Benedict Parish in Holmdel, New Jersey for over 50 years.  She will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.

    She was predeceased by her parents, William and Kathleen (Barry) Maushardt, her devoted husband, Charles C. Coutu, and her beloved son, Richard Coutu.  Joan is survived by her loving children, Thomas Coutu and his wife, Wendy, of Middletown, New Jersey, Kathleen Denison and her husband, William, of Utah, Marie Coutu of Englishtown, New Jersey, Patricia Coutu of Englishtown, New Jersey, and Jeanne Moir and her husband, David, of Jackson, New Jersey, her treasured daughter-in-law, Jane Coutu, and her dear siblings, Anne Carroll, Virginia Redmond, Dorothy Richmond, and William Maushardt and his wife, Linda.  Joan is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Lauren Bertrand, Richard Coutu, Christian Coutu, Ryan Coutu, Courtney Alessi, Brendan Coutu, Michael Clark, Kevin Clark, Danielle McBride, Amanda McBride, Jason Fernandez, Steven Fernandez, Marissa Fernandez, David Moir Jr., and Julia Moir, along with her 12 adored great grandchildren.

     Family and friends are invited to visit on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM and Thursday morning, September 14, 2017 from 9:15 to 10:00 AM at the Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 3269 State Highway/Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey 07730.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday morning, September 14, 2017 at 10:30 AM at St. Benedict Roman Catholic Church, 165 Bethany Road, Holmdel, New Jersey 07733.  In respect of Joan's wishes, she will be privately cremated and her cremains will be interred with her husband Charles, at Brigadier General William C.
