James Manning Obituary

James J. Manning, 78, of Hazlet, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, December 3, 2019.  James, fondly known as, Jim, was born on March 27, 1941 in Brooklyn, New York.  He was the eldest of James and Catherine Manning's three children and was raised in Brooklyn.  Jim frequented the Jersey Shore during the summer, where he met his beloved wife of 47 years, Marion Cunningham, who was also from Brooklyn herself.  James and Marion were married on September 23, 1972 and began their lives together in Brooklyn.  Shortly after the birth of their first child, Jim and Marion moved to Hazlet, New Jersey, where they raised their two children and have resided for the past 46 years.  Jim was a proud American, as well as a proud veteran of the United States Army Reserves.  He was also very active in his community.  Jim was a devoted communicant of St. Benedict Church in Holmdel, a member of the Hazlet Recreation Department, and a softball, baseball, and basketball coach.  In addition, Jim was one of the founding members of the Knights of Columbus, Council #11349.  He was also an avid sports fan, especially cheering on his favorite teams, Notre Dame Football and the Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers baseball teams.  Most of all, Jim was a loving husband and father, and a friend to many.

He was predeceased by his parents, James and Catherine (Moran) Manning, and his dear siblings, Kathleen Stanavitch and Robert Manning, who died while defending our country during the Vietnam War.  Jim is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 47 years, Marion (Cunningham) Manning, and his loving children, Chrissie Battista and her husband, Matt, of Middletown, New Jersey, and Brian Manning of Hazlet, New Jersey, as well as many cherished extended family members and friends.  Jim will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
