Haroun Mahrous

Haroun Mahrous, 97, of Old Bridge, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 9, 2018 at Care One in Holmdel.  Haroun was born on April 15, 1921 in Egypt, where he grew up and lived into his early adulthood.  While studying in Switzerland, he met and married his beloved wife, Graziella on August 9, 1951, and they began their lives together living in Egypt.  In 1954, they moved to the United States, relocating to Brooklyn, New York and shortly after in 1955, they moved to Illinois.  A few years later in 1958, they returned to Brooklyn, New York.  After he retired, they settled in Old Bridge, New Jersey.  Haroun was a Professor of Electrical Engineering at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York.  He served as Chairman of the Department, Director of Graduate Studies and Co-op Program and spearheaded the use of computers in Pratt’s curriculum.

He was predeceased by his parents, Linda (Salib) and Mahrous Haroun and his three brothers, Fareed, Sobhi and Shahata Mahrous.  Haroun is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 67 years, Graziella (Tommasina) Mahrous, his loving daughter, Serenella Stahl and her husband, Robert, of Matawan, New Jersey, and his cherished grandchildren, Charles and Matthew Stahl.  Haroun will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Thursday, November 15, 2018 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM and Friday morning, November 16, 2018 from 8:45 to 9:30 AM at the Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 3269 State Highway/Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey 07730.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday morning, November 16, 2018 at 10:00 AM at St. Benedict Roman Catholic Church, 165 Bethany Road, Holmdel, New Jersey 07733.  In respect of Haroun's wishes, he will be privately cremated.  In lieu of flowers, donations in loving memory of Haroun to The American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, www.mskcc.org, or Doctor's Without Borders, www.doctorswithoutborder.org, would be greatly appreciated.  For information, directions, or to send condolences to the family, please visit, www.shorepointfh.com.
