Maria Luisa (Centeno) Hernandez

      Maria Luisa Hernandez, 100, of Holmdel, New Jersey, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at Arnold Walter Nursing Home in Holmdel, New Jersey.  She was born Maria Luisa Centeno on February 10, 1917 in Aguas Buenas, Puerto Rico, where she grew up.  In 1947, Maria and her husband, Avelino, and two children relocated to the United States, settling in the Bronx.  While living in New York, Maria worked in the Meat Packers Union, Local  #174 in Manhattan. In 1970, two years after her husband Avelino passed away, Maria retired and returned to Puerto Rico to be near family. In the late 1990’s until she relocated to New Jersey to be closer to her children. She was predeceased by her parents, Luis and Carmen (Navarro) Centeno her sister Carmen Otero, and her beloved husband, Avelino Hernandez.  Maria is survived by her loving children, John Hernandez of Holmdel, NJ, and Ruth N. Hernandez of Keyport, NJ, her cherished grandchildren, Edward W. Kenmure, Maria L. Soltys, Peter J. Aponte, Susan N. Jackson, John A. Hernandez, and Paul I. Aponte, along with her 17 adored great grandchildren.  She will be sadly missed, but never forgotten.

     Family and friends are invited to visit on Friday, September 8, 2017 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM and Saturday morning, September 9, 2017 from 8:45 to 9:30 AM at the Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 3269 State Highway/Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey 07730.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday morning, September 9, 2017 at 10:00 AM at St. Benedict Roman Catholic Church, 165 Bethany Road, Holmdel, New Jersey 07730.  Entombment will follow at Holmdel Cemetery Mausoleum, 900 Holmdel Road, Holmdel, New Jersey 07730.  For information, directions, or to send condolences to the family, please visit, www.shorepointfh.com.
