George Yates

        George Yates, 88, of Keyport, New Jersey passed away on Friday, February 12, 2016 at his home. George was born on August 5, 1927 in Middletown, New Jersey. Raised in Keyport, George spent 2 years as a Merchant Marine, 3 years with the Army, from where he was discharged as a 1st lieutenant.George was a proud United States Army veteran, having served in the early 1950's during the Korean Conflict.  When George moved to the Avenel section of Woodbridge in 1957, he spent 7 years as an ironworker and was a Teamster for more than 30 years, before retiring from Smith Transfer in 1988. While in Woodbridge, George served as a councilman in Woodbridge's 3rd ward from 1964 to 1970. He was a member of the Caesarea Masonic Lodge # 64 of Keyport for more than 50 years. George loved the Raritan Bay and Boat's. He owed 6 boats. During his retirement he enjoyed sailing his boat "Primetime". He also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. George ultimately settled in Keyport, New Jersey in 2011. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, JoAnn (Hopla) Yates in 1988, his parents, George and Ann (Wylinck) Yates, and his brother-in-law, Harold Laughlin. George is survived by his loving son, Kenneth Yates and his dearest daughter-in-law, Angela of Long Branch, New Jersey, his cherished granddaughters, JoDee and Teresa Yates, his dear sister, Audrey Laughlin and his nephews, Bob, Dave and Craig. He will be sadly missed, but never forgotten.

        Family and friends are invited to visit on Monday, February 15, 2016 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 3269 States Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey 07730.
