George T. Matthews

      George T. Matthews, 81, of Royal Palm Beach, Florida, formerly of Brooklyn, New York, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at St. Mary's Medical Center in West Palm Beach, Florida.  George was born on July 4, 1934 in Jersey City, New Jersey, where he was raised.  In 1958, he relocated to Brooklyn, New York.  While living in New York, George worked in Fuel Oil Delivery for New York Heating; he was currently retired.  He was also a proud United States Air Force Veteran, where he participated in operation Safe Haven.  In 1999, George moved to West Palm Beach, Florida.  He was predeceased by his parents, Warren and Marie (Napoliello) Matthews, his wife, Carol Ann Matthews, his daughter, Colleen Festo, and his siblings, Patricia Costigliola, William Matthews, Thomas Matthews, and Robert Matthews.  George is survived by his loving children, George T. Matthews Jr. of Staten Island, New York, Jacqueline Pischetola and her husband, Peter, of Staten Island, New York, and Kenneth Matthews of Riviera Beach, Florida, his dear siblings, Aileen Cochrane and her husband, John, James Matthews and his wife, Sandra, and JoAnn Podracky and her husband, Stephen, and nine adored grandchildren.  George is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Rose Matthews and Patricia Matthews, his brother-in-law, Peter Costigliola, and many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.  He will be sadly missed, but never forgotten.

     Arrangements were entrusted to the Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 3269 State Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey 07730.  Family and friends are invited to visit on Thursday, June 9, 2016 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM and Friday morning, June 10, 2016 from 9:15 to 10:00 AM at the Colonial Funeral Home, 2819 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, New York 10306.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday morning, June 10, 2016 at 10:30 AM at St. Ann's Church, 101 Cromwell Avenue, Staten Island, New York 10304.  Interment will follow at the Cemetery of the Resurrection, 361 Sharrott Avenue, Staten Island, New York 10309.  For information, directions or to send condolences to the family, please visit, www.shorepointfh.com.
