Francis E. Kovalsky, 94, of Matawan, New Jersey, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, February 19, 2017. Francis was born on July 22, 1922 in Staten Island, New York, where he grew up. After marriage, Francis and his wife, Anne, began their life together in Staten Island, New York, where they also raised their family. Before retirement, he worked as an Engineer for the Staten Island Ferry System, and while living in Staten Island, Francis was the treasurer of the VFW, and volunteered as a Lector for St. Anthony's Church for many years. Approximately 23 years ago, Francis settled in Matawan, New Jersey. Once settled in New Jersey, he became a member of the VFW Post #6761, in addition to holding the title of Fourth Degree Knight with St. Lawrence Church Knights of Columbus in Laurence Harbor, New Jersey. Francis was also a proud United States Navy Veteran, having served our country during World War II.
He was predeceased by his parents, John and Bertha (Zielinski) Kovalsky, his beloved and devoted wife, Anne (Daly) Kovalsky, his first born child, Mary Anne Kovalsky, and his dear brothers, Andrew Kovalsky, John Kovalsky, and Edward Kovalsky. Francis is survived by his loving daughters, Nancy Miglionica and her husband, Robert, of Matawan, New Jersey, Susan Rigatti and her husband, Ken, of Matawan, New Jersey, and Laura Discenza and her husband, Michael, of Colts Neck, New Jersey. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Jason Rigatti, Lindsay Miglionica, Lauren Miglionica, Brianna Discenza, and Michael Discenza, his adored great grandchildren, Dylan and Justin Rigatti, and his special long-time friend, Marilyn DeStefano. He will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM, and Thursday morning, February 23, 2017, 8:30 to 9:15 AM, at the Shore Point Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 3269 State Highway/Route 35 North, Hazlet, New Jersey 07730. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday morning, February 23, 2017, at 10:00 AM, at St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church, 109 Laurence Parkway, Laurence Harbor, New Jersey 08879.
